The Stylistics Bring Philadelphia Soul to Cape May Summer Concert Series

The Stylistics bring the classic sounds of Philadelphia soul to the Jersey Shore on Sunday, July 12th. The Vocal Group Hall of Fame inductees will perform in the Cape May 2026 Summer Concert Series at Cape May Convention Hall, starting at 8pm.

In 1966, The Stylistics became a group when Beverly Hamilton, an English teacher at Benjamin Franklin High School in Philadelphia, suggested that two rival singing groups in the school join forces. In 1970, the group recorded “You’re A Big Girl Now,” which reached Number 7 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1971.

Philadelphia’s veteran hit producer Thom Bell produced the group’s first album, The Stylistics, which featured classic showstoppers such as, “Stop, Look, Listen to Your Heart,” “You Are Everything,” and “Betcha By Golly Wow.” Between 1972 and 1974, the group had five gold singles and three gold albums and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus.

The group has been honored with a brass plaque on the Avenue of the Arts’ Philly Walk of Fame and the National R&B Music Society's Atlantic City Walk of Fame. Herbert Murrell and second lead Airrion Love, the remaining original members of The Stylistics, continue to tour throughout the world to share their group’s music legacy.
