In celebration of the 175th anniversary of the City of Cape May, the City is inviting residents and visitors to take part in a special social media series that captures the spirit and history of this beloved seaside destination.
To mark the milestone, the City is sharing one photo each day for 175 days beginning March 10th across its Facebook and Instagram. Each image highlights a different piece of what makes Cape May so extraordinary — from its iconic Victorian architecture and scenic beaches to breathtaking sunsets and the vibrant community that calls the city home.
Founded in 1851, Cape May has long held a special place in American history as America’s first seaside resort. Over the past 175 years, generations of visitors and residents have created countless memories here, helping shape the charm, character, and traditions that define Cape May today.
Through this photo series, the City hopes to celebrate those moments and the stories behind them — honoring the beauty, heritage, and people that have made Cape May such a treasured destination.
Community participation is encouraged as well. Residents, visitors, and Cape May fans are invited to submit their favorite photos — both historic and contemporary — for possible inclusion in the series. Whether it’s a vintage snapshot, a family memory at the beach, or a recent photo capturing the magic of the town, every image helps tell the story of Cape May.
Photo submissions should be emailed to krattigan@capemaycity.com and must include a brief description along with appropriate photo credit information.
Follow along on the City’s social media pages as the story of 175 years of Cape May unfolds — one photo at a time.
